Green Space Abounds
Indianola is fortunate to have 14 city parks totaling 255 acres of green space. Buxton Park is the oldest with a timeless and relatively unchanged design. This park is located along the north side of Simpson College on land given to the City of Indianola by William Buxton Senior in 1905. The gift came with three requirements:
Pickard Park, Indianola’s largest park, lies alongside Hwy 92 at the eastern edge of town. Acquired by the Clarence Pickard family in 1976, the park hosts a range of athletic games and tournaments with modern facilities. The park is home to a championship disc golf course and is also the trailhead for the McVay Bike Trail. There are also woodlands and native prairie grasses with trails and scenic views.

Indianola Downtown Renovation
Everyone knows the heart of a community is their Downtown Square.
The Indianola Downtown Square renovation project brings outdated infrastructure into the 21st Century, while giving the area a new look.
In September 2018, the City of Indianola partnered with the Indianola Chamber of Commerce, Warren County Economic Development Council and the Iowa Economic Development Authority to assess the downtown Square. The results created the $10.2 million project that is focused on the safety of a treasured asset of Indianola. Learn more about the project here.
The project will be completed in phases, with a final project expected completion date of November 2023. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed November 2021. You can download the Phase Plan here.
During the construction project, patrons should utilize public parking lots around the Square. Find the Indianola Downtown public parking map here.
